CONTRIBUTING TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS)
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 goals, approved by the United Nations, that calls on the collaboration of governments, the private sector and society to work in order to eradicate poverty, ensure prosperity and protect the planet.
At Mutua Universal we follow a responsible code of conduct that looks after people, companies and the environment. Below are the initiatives we have undertaken and through which we are contributing to achieving the SDGs.

  • Decent working conditions.
  • Social benefits and promoting access to the labour market for people in a vulnerable position after sustaining a work-related accident. In 2020 187 applications were processed and benefits to the value of € 98,176.21 were granted.
  • Participation in campaigns and activities in support of underprivileged communities.
  • Development of the Corporate Health Programme and a health and safety blog, providing advice on healthy, nutritional dietary habits.
  • Collaboration with the Spanish Food Bank Federation in 2020 through the corporate campaign entitled “Tons of Hope” which reached its target of €6,000 in contributions from our employees.
  • Contribution to the health of the 1,428,979 protected and associated workers. In 2020 our professionals attended to 1 million appointments and carried out 309,052 rehabilitation sessions.
  • 126 centres with ISO 9001 certification awarded for quality in service.
  • Within the Company, a guarantee of safety, health and wellbeing of workers thanks to an integrated management system in terms of quality, prevention and the environment.
  • Development of the Corporate Health + Health + Life programme, aimed at transmitting and fostering healthy habits.
  • Training and Corporate University programmes to build on staff talent. In 2020, 585 courses were organised, with an annual average of 21 training hours and an investment of € 163 per employee.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities.
  • 36% of management positions held by women.
  • Our own procedures for the resolution of conflicts arising from psychological and sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • A member of the Network of Companies for a Society Free from Generic Violence.
  • Water consumption in 2020 was 15,915 m3.
  • Introduction of measures to reduce water usage (substituting conventional cisterns for more efficient ones, and installing aerators in our taps, as well as actions to raise awareness about the environment). World Water Day held annually to raise awareness of this issue among staff.
  • Energy consumption in 2020 was 5,526,161 kWh kW/h of electricity and 276,965 kWh of natural gas.
  • Implementation of energy efficiency measures (information and energy management system, replacement of lighting for more efficient solutions using Led technology, efficient air conditioning equipment) and actions to raise awareness about the environment.
  • Online procedures were set up for the application of special benefits for self-employed workers affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Action aimed at improving workers’ health and quality of life, and productivity of associated companies.
  • Programme of reintegration into society and work.
  • On an internal level, decent working conditions and a management model of talent to ensure diversity and equal opportunities in career advancement.
  • Innovative solutions in the field of health.
  • Digital Transformation and innovation in management (Telemedicine, Teleconsultation, eConsultation in Patient’s Personal Area, INSS Private Area, biometric signature, etc.).
  • Organisation of the Innovation and Health Awards, which distinguish those companies that have carried out projects and innovative actions to improve their workers’ health and quality of life.
  • In the field of investigation, a health research unit was set up.
  • New edition of the Scientific Conference on Occupational Pathology.
  • Declaration of respect for people and diversity.
  • Renovation of the Diversity Charter 2020-2022.
  • Renovation of the Bequal Plus Certificate, which certifies that company policies promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace.
  • Diversity Plan, aimed at developing inclusive policies and practices, with a particular focus on gender, age, culture, disability and communities at risk of social exclusion.
  • Criteria of sustainable construction and accessibility in renovation projects and opening of new centres.
  • New centres equipped with next generation technology and energy efficiency.
  • Integrated policy of Quality, Health and Safety in the Workplace and the Environment to provide services fully, effectively, efficiently and sustainably.
  • Guide to responsible recruitment, which introduces ethical, social and environmental criteria in the different stages of the recruitment process.
  • Waste management procedure to ensure its correct collection, storing, transportation, valuation and elimination.
  • Donations programme that enables us to give a second life to our obsolete IT and health equipment, and furniture.
  • Carbon footprint (range 1 and 2) equivalent to 1,601.69 tCO2.
  • Minimisation of the impact on the environment through the system of certified environmental management, measures of energy efficiency, and efficient use of resources.
  • Campaigns to raise awareness of the environment.
  • Environmental Management System based on the requirements of UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2015 Regulation, awarded by AENOR. In 2020 the total number of centres holding this certificate increased to 130.
  • Dissemination among employees of the Guide to Good Environmental Practices and actions to raise awareness on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
  • Efficient use of resources and correct management of waste.
  • Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Protocol, which sets out the values that govern Mutua Universal’s conduct.
  • Provision of tools such as the Integrity Channel, the Internal Risk Management System, Compliance Policy and the Manual of Criminal Risk Prevention.
  • Management system for the Prevention of Corporate Crimes, certified by AENOR and based on the requirements of the ‘URISCERT’ model.
  • Data Protection Policy and Information Security Policy.
  • Control systems through internal and external auditing as well as regulatory bodies. Public accountability.
  • New Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Policy.
  • Committed to the Sustainable Development Goals and their dissemination.
  • Signatories to the Global Pact since 2005.
  • Signatories to strategic alliances.
  • Adaptation and regular updating of our channels of communication and dialogue with stakeholders.
